The renovation of Tallman Tower required a carefully-planned, phased abatement / construction schedule including the “checkerboard” relocation of all residents.
While each wing was sealed off for asbestos abatement, access to egress pathways and elevators had to be maintained for all residents. The renovation of common areas, building systems, and the full modernization of the building’s one elevator also had to be carefully coordinated.
Each apartment interior was fully remodeled to modern standards and the building’s exterior, corridors, and lobby were revitalized. A sleek, contemporary steel and glass canopy was added to accent the main entrance.
*30% post-retrofit energy savings was confirmed by NYSERDA’s consultant.
